Amigurumi monster free pattern
Easy and simple crochet plush monster pattern, good way to destash leftover yarns and turn them into a cute toy amigurumi. The finished monster is about 15 cm tall (5.9 inches).

Materials:
- Yarn: Himalaya Dolphin Baby or YarnArt Dolce
- Hook: 4.0 mm
- Black YarnArt Jeans yarn and 2.5-3.0 mm crochet hook for pupil
- Black yarn for embroidering mouth
- Thin thread in the tone of yarn for sewing arms and horns
- Sewing needle and scissors
- Fiberfill
Abbreviations:
R = row
mc = magic circle
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = 2 sc in the next stitch
dec = single crochet 2 stitches together
(12) = number of stitches you should have at the end of the round/row
(…)*6 = repeat whatever is between the brackets the number of times stated

Legs and body-head
Legs (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in mc (6)
R 2: (inc)*6 (12)
R 3: (1 sc, inc)*6 (18)
R 4-8: 18 sc (5 rows)
Sl st and fasten off.
Don’t cut the yarn when you will finish the second leg!
From second leg: 4 ch, join with the first leg.
Continue crocheting the body in the round:

Fold top of arm flat and 4 sc through both sides across.
Embroider mouth with black yarn. Embroider teeth with white yarn.
Can you place explain the transition from the legs to the body? I’m confused. I made the first leg and fastened off, then I made the second leg and rather than fastening off I chained 4 and placed 8 sc into the first leg as stated. The next bit is what’s confusing: “4 sc in 4 ch, 8 sc on the second leg, 4 sc in 4 ch (opposite side) (24)”. Am I to crochet 4 sc back into the ch 4 that I created when joining the legs? And how do I place 4 sc in a ch 4 on the opposite side when there is none? Thank you so much for the cute, free pattern!

This pattern does not give instructions to finish off body. What gives?
I wondered if you could tell me how much yarn is needed for this amazing design. I would hate to start it and run out. I’m really looking forward to making this.
What colors/numbers of the Himalayan yarn was used in this picture? I like the blends that you used!
It is unclear as to how to join the legs to the body. Do you need to chain 4 on both legs and then attach them ? How do I get chain 4 on the opposite side ?
And if I do that then there is a huge gap between both the legs

The proportion of the eye / pupil in your explanation is quite different from the final result in the photograph. I reduced the pupil to 2 rows but it still seems quite big compared with the eye…
did you use the smaller yarn and also smaller hook size?
So I sewed arms onto the body in round 6 of the monster as I went around crocheting row 6. Made pupil smaller for sure and used worsted weight yarn for eye pupil only. This is cute with 2 or 4 arms. 1 or 2 horns. Also neat with 2 eyes and 1. To the designer you Should’ve finished the pattern for those who try it. I loved making them and will make more in different weighted yarn
Theres no instruction on how to place the eye, horns, nor arms? Besides that it’s a great pattern.
I crochet the arms first so I added them in the side of round 16. I find that that’s best, so you SC the arm along with the body.
I love this pattern and have made about 20 of them to give to our local children’s hospital. The final product looks just like it is supposed to. Thank you for the cute free pattern.

4sc in 4 ch is very confusing. Do I ch 4? Where are the 4 ch to sc? So confusing.

This is my first amigurumi and had a quick question. The hook size is much smaller than the suggested fit this size of yarn. Is that normal for these patterns?
Yes. Smaller hook sizes are normal for amigurumi. The stuffing is less likely to show. A larger hook size will also change the size of the amigurumi.
